Could an unknown actor be cast as Batgirl? Director Joss Whedon says that that is a good possibility.
Variety caught up with him on the red carpet of the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2 world premiere and held his feet to the fire regarding his upcoming casting decisions.
The Avengers director that also created Buffy the Vampire Slayer was pretty direct in stating his intentions for the lead role in his next flick.
As stated in the video below, Whedon is focused on developing the project first before leaping deep into the second level of pre-production.
Still its nice to know what a big-name star won’t get shoved into the costume just because they have put asses in seats in the past.
Shout out to Catwoman.
In a separate conversation with Entertainment Weekly at the same event, Whedon said that his initial conversations with those involved at DC did not center on Batgirl
“It is a little early to tease anything besides the existence of it,” Whedon said. “We weren’t even talking about Batgirl – it came up as part of another conversation and then we all got so excited that the movie suddenly appeared. So that’s a really good sign to me. It wasn’t a slot they were trying to fill. We all just started talking about her and then I couldn’t stop. So, that’s a good feeling.”
Inspiration often leads to strange yet beautiful results that can shift momentum and reset priorities.
