First Look: The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story

We have a sneak peek at Penelope Cruz, Ricky Martin, and Edgar Ramirez in their roles for the next installment of American Crime Story: The Assassination of Gianni Versace.

Ryan Murphy has become one of the kings of television horror and suspense with his shows American Horror Story and American Crime Story. After the success of “The People vs. OJ Simpson,” we knew it wouldn’t be too long before another one of the most famous crimes of the 1990s, the murder of fashion designer Gianni Versace would be depicted on screen.

One of the most prestigious and beloved fashion designers of his time, Gianni Versace, was gunned down one sunny morning in front of his lavish Miami mansion. Since then, his sister, Donatella Versace, has taken over his empire and kept the family name at the forefront of the fashion world.

When casting started, everyone was on pins and needles to find out who would be playing Gianni, Donatella and Gianni’s partner, Antonio D’Amico. When Edgar Ramirez and Penelope Cruz were announced, we have been waiting for any glimpse of them in character. The show’s creator and showrunner, Ryan Murphy, has been giving us tidbits, like the ones below ever since shooting began earlier this month.

Darren Criss will be playing the role of Gianni Versace’s murderer, Andrew Cunanan, while Max Greenfield‘s role has not yet been released. Other than these two, no one had seen pictures of the other main cast members until pictures surfaced online, and we are SHOOK.

The transformation of these talented actors into the Versace inner circle is truly amazing. Storyteller, Ryan Murphy, has a penchant for grabbing his viewers visually, especially with his other bread and butter franchise American Horror Story, but this travel back in time might take the cake. We cannot wait to see how the retelling of the murder of one of the most influential fashion icons of the 20th century will be envisioned on screen.
