Chris Cornell E Bay Ticket Auction Speaks to Musical Legacy

Chris Cornell, the lead singer of Soundgarden, took his life on May 18th of this year after playing a show at the Fox Theatre in Detroit, Michigan.

Recently, an autographed ticket by Chris Cornell from his final show went up on eBay. The seller described the circumstances surrounding how his stub was autographed.

“Up for grabs here is an original concert ticket of Chris Cornell’s final show that was hand signed by Chris himself.

This ticket was signed at his hotel immediately following the concert, and this happened only about an hour before he passed away.

He signed a couple vinyl records and CD covers for me and my ticket stub. Please see the date of the ticket stub. This item was signed in permanent black Sharpie. Chris is a ROCK LEGEND and his place in music history is solidified. This is an amazing collectible that won’t hang around long.”

The ticket is currently listed at $9,999.99.

This signed ticket speaks to not only the popularity of Cornell, but the incredible contributions he made to music and the legacy he has left behind. In the wake of his death, fans and admirers are desperate to possess a piece of what the artist has left behind.

Cornell’s death shook the music world. Suicide is always heartbreaking, and often unexpected. However, Cornell’s death is even more tragic because many family members and friends believe he was not in the right state of mind when he made the decision to take his life.

At the time of his death, Cornell was taking Ativan, an anti-anxiety medication. Ativan has been linked to high rates in suicide. Cornell’s wife made a statement after his death.

“When we spoke after the show, I noticed he was slurring his words; he was different. When he told me he may have taken an extra Ativan or two, I contacted security and asked that they check on him.”

She said that prior to the show he didn’t seem depressed in any way, and had even made Memorial Day plans with her.

After receiving the autopsy and toxicology reports, Cornell’s wife made another statement.

“Many of us who know Chris well noticed that he wasn’t himself during his final hours and that something was very off. We have learned from this report that several substances were found in his system. After so many years of sobriety, this moment of terrible judgment seems to have completely impaired and altered his state of mind. Something clearly went terribly wrong and my children and I are heartbroken and are devastated that this moment can never be taken back. We very much appreciate all of the love we have received during this extremely difficult time and are dedicated to helping others in preventing this type of tragedy.”

Cornell was one of the founding architects of the grunge movement of the 1990s. His powerful voice gave grunge it’s identity and helped paved the way for the movement’s immense popularity. His talent put him in the category of one of rock’s greatest singers.

Along with being the lead vocalist of Soundgarden, Cornell had a very successful career both as a solo artist and with the group, Audioslave. A talent such as his is rare. He was a visionary and music force to be reckoned with.

He changed music forever, and will be remembered for doing so. His death is more than heartbreaking for both music and his family and friends who loved him dearly.

However, hopefully his death will bring light to depression and some of the detrimental side-effects of prescription drugs. We live in a society that, unfortunately, stigmatizes depression instead of helping those suffering from it.

We often unnecessarily medicate people, giving them drugs that are harmful both physically and mentally. Cornell has left behind and incredible musical legacy, and his death will hopefully continue to remind us all to change the way we look at depression. Look out for one another and, if you are suffering from depression, never be afraid to reach out to a friend.
