Los Angeles to Pay Tribute to Adam West

Tribute to a fallen hero

On the evening of Thursday June 15, Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti and Police Department Chief Charlie Beck along with other surprise guests, will join for a ceremonial lighting of the Bat-signal at City Hall in honor of the late Adam West.

Adam West passed away Friday June 9, at the age of 88 due to a battle with leukemia. He is remembered for his role as Batman/Bruce Wayne in the classic Batman television series which ran from 1966-68. In order to remember him, Mayor Garcetti and Chief Beck will light the iconic Bat-signal, which will be projected onto the tower of Los Angeles City Hall at Spring Street. Fans are also invited to attend the event in their Bat-suits to honor Adam West’s role as the iconic crimefighter.

Details of the ceremony have been released on the DC Comics website for fans that wish to attend. The event will be held Thursday June 15 at 9 pm and will take place at Los Angeles City Hall. Los Angeles City Hall is located at Spring Street Steps: 200 N Spring St, Los Angeles, CA 90012.

Fans that are unable to attend are asked Adam West’s family to donate to the Adam West Memorial Fund for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and Idaho-based charity for children diagnosed with cancer and their families, Camp Rainbow Gold.

Adam West’s Batman may have seem campy and childish but it has struck with many fans throughout its run and even after. Adam West has made cameos in Batman: The Animated Series and Fairy Odd Parents somewhat parodying the character he played on the small screen. Even if you are not a fan of the campiness of the show, you must admit that West was a good entertainer. When you watch the show, you enjoy West beating up criminals, interacting with his sidekick, all while teaching kids life lessons that will stick with them forever.
