North Carolina roots rock group Rich Lerner & the Groove has come out with their latest album Push On Thru.
The band offers their own version of Southern Rock & Roll; mixed with blues, a little funk. It’s the kind of music that’s synonymous with good food, lots of drinks, dancing, and a good ole time. You might even want to refer to it as Classic Rock. Like before the heavy metallers, goth bands, and alternative rockers took over the genre. Some of the songs will remind you of Rock classics like Elvis’ “Burning Love” or Steppen Wolf’s 1968 hit single “Born to Be Wild”.
The six-member band has been recording and playing music for many years. Lead singer, Rich Lerner, started making the music in the 90s. And has come up with four solo albums as a result. While the entire group has put together four albums since 2000. They’ve been compared to other notable bands like the Grateful Dead and The Rolling Stones.
Rich Lerner & the Groove are mostly known for their ability to make every show different. They pride themselves on giving a dynamic live performance that incorporates soulful vocals with three-part harmonies, and a solid rhythm section. Every player is exceptional in their own right and can hold their own. But together they create a powerful sound. It’s amazing to experience in person.
The band has also created their own annual festival in their hometown, Greensboro, NC. It’s called the Groove Jam Music Festival which seeks to benefit the local homeless shelter and food bank. In past years, it has raised over $10,000 and collected 1418 pounds of food donations. This year the festival will be held on September 16th. It’s been running since 2012.
