Serena Williams glows on the cover of Vanity Fair.
Just as how she made it as a professional tennis player, she made it on the cover of Vanity Fair’s August issue. Confident, bold and beautiful, Serena Williams poses nude on the cover as a soon-to-be wife and mother.
The 35-year-old tennis player tells Vanity her journey through meeting fiancé and Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian and her pregnant lifestyle.
Serena couldn’t believe she was pregnant even after taking six pregnancy tests. What made the situation more of a shock, she found out just a week before playing the Australian Open in Melbourne. “Oh my God, this can’t be—I’ve got to play a tournament,” Serena tells Vanity.
Her 34-year-old fiancé was just as surprised as she first found out after she showed his all six positive pregnancy tests.
However, the show must go on. Despite the fact that Serena was three to four weeks pregnant, she continued to compete at the tournament with only her fiancé, friends and the doctor aware of her pregnancy — not even Serena’s coach. However, with her hormones changing and Serena was consistently getting tired between points, she managed to win all seven matches, crowning her the tournament champion.
After the phenomenal play she put on, she would be taking a maternity leave throughout the rest of 2017 — she definitely deserves it.
Months later, Serena was six months pregnant, and the reality finally hit her when she said:
“It just doesn’t seem real. I don’t know why. Am I having a baby?”
With her wedding coming up fast as well as the birth of her baby, Serena’s life is coming together all at once, and we can’t help but cheer her on and wish everything turns out smoothly.
“If you would have told me last year in October or November that I would have a baby, not be pregnant but have a baby, I would have thought you were the biggest liar in the world,” Serena said. “This is kind of how I am right now. This is happening sooner than later, and it’s going by so fast.”
As ambitious and motivated Serena is, she’s definitely not done with tennis. Once January of next year comes around, she’s getting back in the game:
“I don’t think my story is over yet,” she tells Vanity.
I’m sure we can all agree that Serena Williams is literally goals we all want in life.
