Kanye West is a man who does not allow others to walk all over them, no matter who they are. And TMZ reports that West is leaving Tidal over none other than money owed him.
The TMZ report states “Sources connected to Tidal tell TMZ, Kanye has been unhappy with the company for a long time. We’re told Kanye has complained the company owes him money — more than $3 million.”
Adding insult to injury, JAY-Z’s new album apparently trashes Kanye even though he is a big part of Tidal, and JAY-Z’s business partner of sorts.
And the news also comes after Kanye’s Life of Pablo album supposedly brought in over 1.5 million subscribers to the digital music streaming service, according to TMZ. West says that Tidal owes him a bonus for the subscribers added, as well as $3 million that he has earned.
There is more than enough back and forth between Tidal and West, and both parties seem ready to battle it out in court if needed.
Following West’s lawyer sending off a letter stating Tidal breached the contract, Tidal fired back “…saying as far as the company was concerned it still had an exclusive contract with the rapper and if he tried to go to another streaming service they’d sue him. We’re told Kanye’s willing to walk away, but if Tidal sues him, he’ll sue them right back,” per the TMZ report.
The two sides have attempted to come to a compromise surrounding the issue, but nothing has been worked out at this point.
In a career that has included plenty of ups and downs, Kanye West is far from backing down from anything–or anyone. But JAY-Z doesn’t put up with any shit either, so a rap battle could ensue in court shortly between the two.
And at this time, it isn’t clear who will be on top of the wave or underneath its crushing pressure.
