Major Lazer’s music video for “Know No Better” debuted on Tuesday. It proved to be a smash hit on Youtube already pulling in almost 500,000 views in a few hours. The song features Travis Scott, Camila Cabello and Quavo.
The video tells the story of a young boy with a passion for dancing. He’s constantly day dreaming of a world where he’s rich and a backup dancer for Major Lazer. He zones out so much into the fantasy he catches himself on fire during chemistry class.
The video is a classic example of kids dreaming so big they lose their own reality. The boy ends up utilizing his dance skills to get his crush to notice him in a diner while Diplo watches on. It was great seeing a video that tells a story all the way through that had an uplifting and inspiring ending. In reality the boy didn’t have money. It was his talent that gave him the confidence to get his crush to take a second look. The most entertaining fantasy in when the young boy dreams he’s in the recording studio with Cabello and Scott laying down a track. Viewers will effortlessly relate.
The video’s director, Philip Andelman, shared some insight on his goal for at the video, “For me, Major Lazer is the ne plus ultra of dance music videos,” says Andelman. “It’s always been a dream of mine to work with them and be included in their insane canon. Which is where the idea for the video started, with a daydream. I used to space out all through high school about being the sickest guitarist in the world to impress girls but all I could play in real life was a quarter-speed version of Slash’s solo from “Sweet Child O’Mine”.”
Andelman’s vision comes to light with “Know No Better.” The title song off of their new EP itself is an attention grabber. The beautiful piano medley intro sets the stage before Scott dives right into his rhymes. Cabello has shined as a solo artist since her departure from girl group Fifth Harmony. Her strong vocals help guide this song toward party anthem status.
