In anticipation of their upcoming album, Vaquita, LA-based duo Flood Coats just dropped their newest single, “Don’t Hold The Door,” and it is super catchy.
The album, which will be the band’s first full-length release, is set to hit the music scene on July 28, 2017.
Flood Coats is a collaboration between Joel P West and Darla Hawn. Their dream-pop aesthetic takes its influences from 80’s pop, giving their sound a fun, melodious edge.
Their newest single, “Don’t Hold The Door” is dreamy, happy and poppy. Something about the melody evokes the image of a modern-day Fleetwood Mac, while the electronic instrumentals give the song its own unique vibe. Hawn’s vocals are absolutely beautiful, and not a note is out of place. The lyrics are poetic, and evoke vivid images, often dealing with nature in both literal and metaphorical senses. The up-beat tempo and fun synth-pop stylings make “Don’t Hold the Door” a great song to listen to when in need of a pick-me-up.
“Don’t Hold the Door” is the second single off of the upcoming album, preceded by “Billowing Open,” Vaquita’s opening track. Compared to “Don’t Hold the Door,” “Billowing Open” is more mellow and etherial. West takes center stage on this track, while Hawn tackles the harmonies, adding a whole other layer to the already lovely tune. This song feels of infinity, and exudes inspirational vibes. This is a song to listen to on warm summer nights while having adventures with friends, or simply when listeners are loving life.
The taste these two songs have given makes it apparent that Vaquita will be absolutely magical once drops in a few days. Fans can pre-order the album on Flood Coat’s official website, where they will receive a download code as well as an adorable enamel pin shaped like a pink dolphin.
