Gucci’s Newest Vintage Sci-Fi Inspired Fall/Winter 2017 Campaign

Gucci is at it again — their newest fall/winter 2017 campaign is a bit different and with a more sci-fi vibe to it.

The Italian brand recently released mysterious teasers on their Instagram and putting the hashtag #gucciandbeyond beneath the posts. The teasers feature robots and intergalactic creatures dressed in the stylish AW17 Gucci garments.

The aliens in the campaign have even brought controversy when a Central Saint Martins student said they had been copied from images that he’s created. Once again, Gucci has been accused of plagiarism, so this isn’t news to any of us. However, the brand’s creative director Alessandro Michele didn’t hesitate to mention that it wasn’t the case and everything has been cleared up once the actual campaign was released.

While the photos were taken by Glen Luchford, the campaign was inspired from the iconic ’50s and ’60s sci-fi films such as Creature from the Black Lagoon, Forbidden Planet and Star Trek. The campaign showcased model aliens dressed in large hates, clashing vintage prints and bejewelled eyewear and placing them in different landscapes in each shot. Not to mention a fighting a giant dinosaur in one of the shots.

If you’re hoping that the aliens would mean a full-length feature film, then you’ll be pleased to hear that there is actually a video to the campaign. The video was also taken by Luchford and it resembles a typical trailer to any sci-fi movie. The video captures every character in the campaign, from taking control of a spaceship to fighting off dinosaurs and wandering around aimlessly in unfamiliar planets.

Gucci has definitely brought back the old-school sci-fi theme with their newest campaign, but with a splash of Gucci’s style, of course.
