Miley Cyrus Announces New Album Younger Now

The singer returns to her roots

In an exciting return to music, Miley Cyrus announced her sixth album, titled Younger Now, is due out September 29th. The popstar made the announcement by posting the title in a ropey script on the back of a bedazzled black leather jacket.

Not much has been said about Younger Now by Cyrus, leaving the project shrouded in surprise. All that fans do know is that it promises to be a dramatic step away from the hip-hop, beat-heavy, psychedelic direction the singer took with recent albums such as Bangerz and Miley Cyrus & Her Dead Petz.

Cyrus has already had spectacular success with “Malibu,” the first single from Younger Now. The song had Cyrus making her first Billboard Hot 100 appearance since 2014. The beachy track also had 4 million U.S. streams and 29,000 downloads sold after less than a day, quickly shooting up to No. 1 on the Billboard + Twitter Trending 140 chart. Cyrus followed “Malibu” with another single, “Inspired,” which discusses the environmental dangers the planet is facing. Both songs have a similar, simple pop-folk sound. Setting the bar high, “Malibu” and “Inspired” seem to be a pretty good indication that Younger Now is going to be an epic album.

Judging from the two singles and statements made by both Cyrus and her father, Billy Ray Cyrus, this album is Miley returning to her roots, who she truly is and what inspired her to fall in love with music in the first place. Billy Ray recently told Billboard

“This is Miley leaning into her roots more than I’ve ever heard… For her, this is honest.”

Cyrus has been added to the 2017 MTV Video Music Awards on Aug. 27. The singer will also appear with her entire family on the upcoming season of Apple Music’s Carpool Karaoke series.
