Drake Squashes Beef and Co-Signs Cardi B at OVO Fest

Drake’s OVO Fest has become one an annual measuring stick of what is making hip-hop go round. The 2017 edition will be forever known as the year when the Toronto native squashed a beef in his home town as he validated the arrival of another rapper.

New York reality star Cardi B has struggled to be taken seriously as a wordsmith after fighting her way out of the strip clubs.

With a bonafide hit under her belt in “Bodak Yellow,” Drake brought her out during his performance to drop what he called “the hottest song out.”

He also publicly mended fences with Tory Lanez with whom he has a volatile history with.  The pair reportedly brokered a peace offering a while ago and the Lil’ Wayne protégé made it official as he stood on stage with Lanez.

“Me and this guy right here. We had problems with each other; we had never even met each other. I met the man, and he’s a great guy,” Drake told the festival crowd.

Lanez surfaced during the set to perform his take on Drake’s “Controlla.”

Beyond the bullet points from the headliner’s set there were key moments that were provided from the rest of the roster.

Houston sonic genius Travis Scott, Playboi Carti Atlanta’ Migos and OVO’s very own  PartyNextDoor and Majid Jordan all sent the crowd home with personal milestones to reflect on.

Migos in particular made their mark with a few performances of trademark pieces like “Bad and Boujee” and “T-Shirt.”

After a eventful 2017, OVO Fest will continue to reflect the current state of the culture in 2018 and beyond.

If Coachella is the annual be-all and end all of music festivals, OVO Fest is shaping up to become an event which serves as the direct time capsule of what represented a genre that is consistently fluid.
