The recruiting season is one that goes year round in the Southeastern Conference. Every week I will have the latest in recruiting news around the SEC. Which recruits have committed and to which schools will be the focus of this article every week. I will from time to time focus on certain recruits that have had impressive seasons or are in store for a big season or week.
The rich always seem to get richer when it involves the powerhouse teams around the country, and the case is true with the Alabama Crimson Tide. The Crimson Tide are building on the offensive line with an impressive four-star recruit out of Norco, California.
Jarrett Bell is a 6-foot-4-inch, 290-pound guard, that fits the Crimson Tide mold. Bell has had an impressive high school career — seeing action on both sides of the ball — but this will be the first season he really can concentrate on playing the offensive line. Bell is the 10th commitment for the Crimson Tide, as the recruiting season really begins to heat up.
Florida has had an active week on the recruiting front as well this week. The Gators picked up a commitment from an impressive running back out of Bainbridge, Georgia. Dameon Pierce is a strong, bruising running back that can run right through opposing defenses. Pierce rushed for over 1,600 yards in 2016, and is someone that the Gators were able to beat Alabama, Auburn and Florida State for his services. Pierce has the potential to have an even bigger season at Bainbridge this season.
In other recruiting news from around the conference, the Arkansas Razorbacks were able to receive a verbal commitment from wide receiver recruit Maureese Wren. Wren is a 6-foot-4-inch wide receiver who can be a matchup problem for corners that are not physical. Wren is an impressive athlete and gives the Razorbacks a red zone threat that can high point the football. Wren has over 20 offers, so Arkansas being able to dip into Mesquite, Texas, to snag him is an impressive get for a team that is inneed of offensive weapons next season.
Every week I will focus on a recruit to keep an eye on from SEC country. The first player for SEC fans to keep an eye on is Camron Thompson. Thompson is out of powerhouse Grayson High School in Loganville, Georgia. He is starting to catch the eyes of plenty of recruiters from Arkansas State, Memphis, Georgia State and Georgia Southern. Thompson has the ability to power over people and use his quickness to find the end zone.
The Clemson Tigers are likely going to be taking a long look at Camron as well. Thompson and the Grayson Rams are in store for another big season. And the Rams are defending state champions in Georgia and will open up against the Alleghany Trojans next Friday night.
As the football season heats up, so does recruiting season. Make sure to check with Salute Magazine every week for more recruiting news.
