“What a summer!! Thank you to some of the craziest, most passionate, intense avid fans on the planet,” Metallica said on their website. “This has been another memorable and special summer run for us seeing so many new faces along with lots of old friends as you welcomed us back for our first tour of North America in over eight years. As we near the end, we want to share one more evening with all of you by streaming the final night of the WorldWired North American tour live, this Wednesday, August 16th, from Edmonton.”
In support of their tenth studio album, Hardwired… To Self-Destruct, the band played a handful of U.S. shows, including a secret performance at New York City’s Webster Hall, before embarking on the Latin American leg of the tour with a performance in San Juan, Puerto Rico on October 26, 2016.
To date, the tour has grossed more than $105 million dollars, selling more than 900,000 tickets across more than 40 cities. The tour also included their performance at the 59th Annual Grammy Awards last February, when they rocked out on stage with pop music icon, Lady Gaga.
Metallica’s WorldWired Tour will continue from September through May 2018, with performances scheduled in Copenhagen, Amsterdam, Paris, London, Barcelona, Turin, Hamburg, Prague, Budapest, Munich, Oslo and several other European cities.
