Etrigan Shall Return in ‘The Demon: Hell is Earth #1’

Jack Kirby is one of the greatest comic book creators of all-time. He has created characters ranging from his different Marvel Comics properties to “The New Gods at DC Comics. Jack Kirby’s work at DC Comics is lesser known than his Marvel creations, but still important. One lesser known Jack Kirby creation is Etrigan the Demon.

On Aug. 16, DC Comics announced that Etrigan would be getting a new miniseries for fans to enjoy. The miniseries will be written by Andrew Constant and will have art by Brad Walker and Andrew Hennesy. One of the many things fans love about the character is that he always speaks in rhymes. The DC Comics website nodded to that by writing a poem about this announcement.

The poem goes:

Look here, fans, and take a break.
A new comic announcement we’re ready to make.
About a war on Earth to destroy all man
And a rhyming demon named Etrigan.

Andrew Constant writes this new tale of fright,
Bringing startling new layers of the Demon to light.
He’s assisted by artists of the highest skill:
Messrs. Walker and Hennessy their duties fulfill.

Fans can expect both action and chills
In a tale that addresses our modern-day ills.
In this month where we celebrate Jack Kirby’s birth
We’re pleased to announce THE DEMON: HELL IS EARTH!

This new series promises to explore the character more in depth, and the story will be set in Death Valley. It will show a retired Jason Blood who has locked away the Demon inside of him. Though when a nuclear bomb hits, a crack appears in the Earth, allowing Hell to emerge.

Brad Walker told DC Comics,

“I was excited to work on a great, slightly lesser exposed Kirby character. As I’ve gotten into Andrew’s scripts, I’ve been having fun doing something tonally different than books I’ve worked on in the past. It’s fun tapping into moody, darker aspects of my art. It has a bit of a Vertigo vibe. It’s maybe not a side of me people know, but it’s stuff I am a fan of, just as much as the big, bombastic, superhero stuff.”

The miniseries will combine action and terror on a grand scale. It will feature tense, conflicted relationships and brutal, kinetic combat, with no less than the fate of the world at stake. Hell is literally coming to Earth.

“The Demon: Hell Is Earth #1” will be available by Nov. 15.
