Balmain’s Creative Director, Olivier Rousteing, has embarked on an interesting collaboration with beauty brand, L’Oréal Paris. The collaboration will include a collection of lipsticks in bold colors, called Color Riche. Word of the collection has been buzzing since early May but the official release date is set for September 1st.
In an interview with Vogue, Rousteing discussed the inspiration behind the collection saying, “The reason we made them like this is because we wanted to talk to so many women of all ages, all colours and all backgrounds.”
In order to appeal to women of all demographics, the collection features many bight, vibrant colors that differ from the traditional pinks and nudes we are accustomed to.
This sapphire blue shade is called “Rebellion.”
This army green shade is mixed with gold shimmer and is called “Instinct.”
It’s clear that these shades are out of the box, and might not be for every woman. So, Rousteing and Loréal also created a nude and pink.
This nude shade features a gold shimmer and is called “Confidence.”
This stunning berry pink shade is called “Confession” and is my personal favorite.
Each of the 12 shades are a matte finish and are intended to last all day and night, with little need to reapply. Rousteing even admitted to pushing one of his friends in the pool to see if it was waterproof. And voila! It stayed in tact.
Rousteing also intends to create a more affordable way for people to own Balmain products. Balmain is a luxury brand and the price tags are very high, so Rousteing is always thinking of ways to make the brand more attainable. In 2015, his collection Balmain for H&M was an instant hit as people cleared the shelves of military style jackets and dresses.
He also told Vogue, “The reason we did lipstick is because Balmain is all about expressing yourself. And women express themselves with their lips, with their mouths. I love personalities, strong girls that have something to say and aren’t scared.”
The collaboration is meant to inspire women to express themselves fearlessly and unapologetically.
Color Riche will first be available at Harvey Nichols on September 1st and then nationwide on September 25th.
