One of the signature pieces of the 90’s musical movement were the Riot grrrls.
The ultra-feminist punk-based genre was as refreshing as it was disruptive. No other band embodied the spirit of the Riot grrrls more than Bikini Kill. On Saturday, the unit consisting of Kathi Wilcox, Kathleen Hanna and Tobi Vail played together for the first time since 1997.
The one song NYC mini-set consisted of the classic “For Tammy Rae.” The occasion was a party to celebrate Pitchfork’s Jenn Pelly’s new book on the Raincoats’ self-titled 1979 album.
