Glamour’s 2017 Women of the Year Awards Show took place last night, November 13th, at the Kings Theatre in Brooklyn, NY. Each year Glamour honors women who are working to make a difference in the world.
The awards are not just given to women working in fashion, but government officials, astronauts, writers, and more. In the wake of the sexual assault cases and allegations swirling around Hollywood lately, female empowerment and unity was a topic on everyone’s minds.
One of last night’s memorable award recipients was Dior’s creative director Maria Grazia Chiuri. Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, author of We Should All Be Feminists, presented Chiuri with the Fashion Force award. Adichie’s book title was adapted into one of Dior’s hottest items: their “We Should All Be Feminists” t-shirts.
As reported in Vogue, Adichie said,“Putting words on a T-shirt will not change the world, but words do matter. Words raise awareness, words start conversations, and conversations can begin the process of change.”
