Real Housewives of Atlanta star Kandi Burruss is headed to Broadway. The reality star and R&B songstress will be taking part in the popular musical Chicago.
Kandi is choosing Broadway over sticking it out with her former group Xscape. Not too long ago she made it clear that LaTocha Scott, Tameka “Tiny” Harris, and Tamika Scott would be recording music without her, while she would be on the stage. However, she did agree to take part in the 22-city tour that will consist of Xscape, Tamar Braxton, and Monica.
The “Great Xscape Tour” is supposed to last until New Year’s Eve. After that, Kandi will dedicate the rest of her time to her new role. Reports say that she will appear as the iconic character of Mama Morton. Her role will take place in an eight-week run that will begin in January. Just in time for her to get off the Xscape tour and jump into the theatre.
Out of the four girls, Kandi was always the one who wasn’t so sure if she would be able to stick with the group thing. In the beginning, she went along with the reunification fever to appease the fans and knock out three shows with the girls. She eventually gave in to a reality show, a possible biopic, and a tour. However, she’s absolutely not going to participate in recording new music.
Back in 2015, Kandi’s RHOA co-star NeNe Leakes took on the same Broadway role. She also played the Wicked Stepmother in Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella in 2014. Both ladies just as competent at acting as they are being reality stars.
Good luck to Kandi. Hopefully, Broadway brings her as much joy as singing, producing music, writing songs, appearing on a reality show, selling sex toys, and providing comfort food. It’s easy to forget how much this chick actually does.
