Today, LVMH announced that Céline’s Creative Director Phoebe Philo will be stepping down from her position at the fashion house.
Philo was first appointed Creative Director in 2008 and in her nine years at Céline has transformed the brand into a must-have designer. The most popular bags during Philo’s reign were the trio leather crossbody bag, luggage tote, and the oversized Cabas.
The luggage tote has arguably become the most recognizable of Céline’s purse. The bag comes in three different sizes: a micro size that features a crossbody strap, a medium size, and a large. The luggage tote has been seen on countless fashionistas and A-list celebrities alike. Available in endless color combos and paired with a hefty price tag, the tote quickly became, and remains, in popular demand.
Prior to Céline, Philo graduated from Central Saint Martins in 1996 and worked at Chloé from 1997 to 2006. In 2001, Stella McCartney left Chloé to start her own label and Philo stepped up as Creative Director. In 2004, she married Max Wingram and together the couple have three children.
Céline’s Pre-Fall 2018 collection will be Philo’s last collection. No information regarding who will take over for Philo has been released but, as always, we will keep you updated.
