A$AP Mob, Nav, Lil Yachty and G Perico are among those that will storm into the New York Expo Center in the Bronx on Jan. 18. The occasion is to celebrate the life of A$AP Yams who died nearly three years ago.
The now-annual Yams Day event sheds light on the life of the A$AP Mob co-founder. Top Dawg Entertainment’s Ali will DJ the show as will the Cozy Boys.
The crew’s breakout star A$AP Rocky described the night Yams passed in vivid details to the New York Times in 2015.
Yams died of an accidental drug overdose after battling addiction. Rocky and A$AP Lou found him unconsciousness in bed.
“I just look at his face. I look at Lou. You could just tell. We knew,” Rocky said. “I was scared,” he said. “I was wilding on everybody, like, ‘Who let him do drugs?,’ even though you can’t blame nobody.”
The groundwork that Yams laid for his crew can’t be overstated and this is why they honor him each year.
A former intern of another Harlem crew The Diplomats, A$AP Yams helped build his team up with a fierce loyalty that rarely exists in the music industry.
This event will not only celebrate his life but showcase how A$AP Mob mashes on with current releases like Cozy Tapes Vol. 2: Too Cozy.
A piece of the ticket sales will benefit the Always Strive and Prosper Foundation, which was put together by Yams’ mother, Tatiana Rodriguez.
