Lebanese designer Zuhair Murad has become widely known for his success in red carpet and celebrity fashion. Murad was born in 1971 in Fas Baalbek, Lebanon. He quickly discovered his love for fashion, moving to Paris after high school and obtaining his fashion degree.
In 1997, he returned to Beirut, Lebanon and opened his first atelier. His private client list quickly grew as he gained acknowledgement for his brilliant evening wear designs.
Murad designs women’s ready-to-wear, bridal gowns, cocktail dresses, and red-carpet pieces. Although his collections carry hefty price tags, his work is truly exquisite and unique from that of most other designers.
As his bridal collections reflect, Murad has a distinct ability to understand how women want to look and feel on their wedding day. He combines elegance and sexiness using nude overlays, lace embroidery, and sheer hoods. Murad’s bridal gowns are also for the daring fashionista, not the modest bride. Each dress is a true work of art.
Murad’s talents quickly made him a celebrity favorite for awards shows and other red carpet events.
Victoria’s Secret model Alessandra Ambrosio stunned in this Zuhair Murad gown during the 2016 Cannes Film Festival in France. The gown featured a tapered bottom with a ball gown overskirt. Murad’s ability to design gowns that fit like a glove was on full display, as Ambrosio looked picture perfect.
He’s a favorite of Hailey Baldwin, Gabriella Union, and Nicole Kidman just to name a few.
However, Murad discussed his proudest moment in an interview with Vogue Arabia saying,
“One of my proudest red carpet moments was Jennifer Lopez at the 2010 Met Gala. We worked on the dress for more than 1,000 hours, from the design to the hand-embroidery and the tailoring. Of course, the time spent on the gown was worth it, as Jennifer matched every second of its glory that night.”
When it comes to his speciality- couture gowns, Murad believes there will always be a place for them in the ever-changing industry. The designer told Vogue, “Women who like unique and exclusive high-level fashion are still out there too and that’s why couture will always be a necessity. I love designing in general and I love couture because I can go as far as I want with it via my imagination. The sky is the limit.”
For a designer as talented as Zuhair Murad, the sky truly is his limit. As he continues to perfect his skill and create new designs, he sets himself farther and father apart from others.
