Prior to signing with Gucci Mane‘s 1017 Records, last year, 27-year-old Atlanta rapper HoodRich Pablo Juan already started to gain an underground following as the leader of the MONY POWR RSPT (Money, Power, Respect) movement and from earlier mixtapes, including the Designer Drugz trilogy and his recent collaboration with Danny Wolf.
Gucci and his Interscope-backed imprint dominated in 2017, with his first album to land in the Top 10 of the Billboard 200 chart, Mr. Davis, which he later followed with another chart-topper, El Gato: The Human Glacier, which hit no. 28 on the charts.
HoodRich Pablo Juan fits in very well with 1017 Record’s plans to dominate in the new year. He is known for his work ethic, having released seven mixtapes, eight collaboration projects and one studio album since 2015. His new mixtape, Rich Hood, also features special guest appearances from Lil Yachty, Lil Baby, Gunna, Hoodrich Hect, Lil Duke, Yung Mal, Lil Jay Brown, Key Glock, and Marlo.
Hosted by DJ Scream & DJ Champ, the mixtape blends speedy trap beats with selectively mumbled-lyrics that show HoodRich is a rap artist with a lot of potential and appeal. His tracks are much more coherent then some of the other new school rappers, but still rather simplistic, focusing heavily on making money.
One of the best parts of Rich Hood is the production which includes tracks from the entire 808 Mafia, Quay Global, Spiffy Global, DY [of 808 Mafia], Southside [of 808 Mafia], Hoodrich Keem, DJ Plugg, OG Parker, G. Ry, and BasedKash.
With tracks like “Money on Fleek,” “Ball Like a Bitch,” “18K,” “Racks On Des Diamonds,” “Flawless,” and “Paid in Full,” HoodRich doesn’t leave much up to the imagination and like many young rappers, likes to talk about living in the lap of luxury and the finer things like diamonds and jewelry and always reps for the people East Atlanta’s Zone 6.
