Phillip Lim has taken inspiration from his country living and station wagon to create his latest fall 2018 menswear line.
Lim, who is known for taking classic pieces, reinventing them, and infusing them with humor has done it once again with this collection. The American fashion designer of Chinese descent has decided to take a unique approach when it comes to his latest collection by incorporating a country living feel with a twist of comfort.
This new collection gives a crash course on layering. Lim skillfully constructed one piece ensembles that appear to require three to four different pieces. By making these unique designs, Lim was able to create layered looks that appear effortless and chic.
Men’s sleep shirts also received an upgrade featuring double collars. Thick bubble coats were paired with knit sleeves for contrast. Additionally, most of the pieces from the collection are reversible for a two-in-one look.
Furthermore, Lim took a more unconventional approach to traditional pieces with numerous tees and turtlenecks covered in unique prints and patterns, resembling his recipes from the farmers market or a market tote. These pieces are said to hold the true key to the inspiration for this collection.
Lim also successfully played with fabrics. He designed reversible puffer coats made of cotton instead of nylon and created his own version of tailored sweatpants made of bonded Neoprene. Lim even went as far as redesigning and upgrading the classic “dad jeans”. His version features a somewhat high-waist jean cut from an indigo denim instead of the traditional faded blue hues.
Just like prior collections, Lim made his oversized style nearly foolproof this season, building unique pieces that compliment one another. It’s a collection with range and versatility as the main components.
