A$AP Rocky is inching closer to his next solo opus.
After bathing in the success of 2015’s At.Long.Last.ASAP., rap’s renaissance man has remained visible and active.
As the key figure in A$AP Mob, he spearheads everything from releases such as The Cozy Tapes series to the Yams Day events.
The harmonic “☆☆☆☆☆ 5IVE $TAR$,” is somewhat minimal yet rough and clearly feels like an appetizer to a bigger meal.
With his confidently laid back cadence front-and-center, Rocky rolls over the Metro Boomin-produced beat with ease.
Featuring DRAM, the track oscillates between feeling narcotic and menacing.
Rocky has been teasing new music on his social media accounts since the beginning of the year and rumors have dotted the landscape of the project since late 2016.
Producers such as Jim Jonsin have been attached to his fourth album. Retro rock star Lenny Kravitz has been seen in the studio with him although no official word has been made about his involvement in the collection.
He told GQ that this record is all about doing things differently.
My new album is really about testing new sounds. People are scared to test new sounds, so they go with what’s current ’cause it’s the easy thing to do. The top 100 songs sound a certain way. People cater more to that because it’s a bigger demographic behind that, or it’s a guaranteed demographic behind that. I prefer to experiment and have my crowd grow with me and to reach new crowds. I don’t just rap—I actually make music. That’s why it takes time. These sonics represent me.”
Whatever the situation is, bank on this next record to one the defines his career and his legacy.
