Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Alshon Jeffery is having a great old time right now. His team is in the Super Bowl, and he not only gets a chance to fulfill a childhood dream, but also make good on a promise he made last season… in a way. After losing the last game of the 2016 season as a member of the Chicago Bears, Jeffery said the following:
“I guarantee you we (the Chicago Bears) are going to win the Super Bowl next year.”
Two months later, he signed with Philadelphia. It seems Jeffery enjoys speaking in hyperbole. When asked why he chose to sign with the Eagles, he told reporters it was the “best decision”, which is actually correct. He also said the following regarding Carson Wentz, who was a big reason for the wideout to sign with the team:
“He had a lot to do with my decision, he’s a great quarterback. He’s going to be a future MVP.”
Call it emotion or excitement, whatever, Jeffery was waxing some sort of prophetic, and Wentz might actually win the MVP this season. He’ll have a chance, along with fellow 2017 free agent signee Nick Foles, to bring the Lombardi Trophy to Philly. He’s second on the Eagles in receiving yards and leads the team in receiving touchdowns.
