New Orleans is known as the birthplace of jazz music and unlocks the door to various unforgettable performances.
Originating in 1995, the city continues to celebrate jazz and R&B music with the annual Essence Festival. This summer, fans and high-profile celebrities alike will bask in a four-day summer blowout. The event will take place in the “Big Easy” at the Louisiana Superdome July 5-8.
More than 40 acts are scheduled to take over the stage. Superstar divas such as Janet Jackson and Mary J. Blige who recently earned her first Oscar nomination , are just a few names among many to be present.
Other star-studded performers on the roster include; Erykah Badu, Jill Scott, Snoop Dogg, Miguel, Xscape, Fantasia, H.E.R., Idris Elba, Daniel Caesar, dvsn, Kelly Price, Ro James, Marsha Ambrosius, MC Lyte, Kelela, Ro James, DVSN, 112, Mali Music, Kevin Ross, and a multitude of artists yet to be revealed. Fans can also expect a “Legends of Hip-Hop Show” with Doug E. Fresh featuring Big Daddy Kane, and Kool Moe Dee. Simultaneously, Teddy Riley’s New Jack Swing Experience is set to include Wreckx-N-Effect, BLACKstreet, and Guy.
All uniquely curated by hip-hop band The Roots, who will also be charming the crowd.
The ultimate presentation will be panning between the Main-stage and the four super-lounges located inside the exhibition venue. The Fest will also present a DJ for the first time for an interactive musical experience. These DJ sets will be performed by acclaimed actor Idris Elba (DJ Driis) and rap legend MC Lyte.
