Marvel Studio’s Black Panther movie premiere took place in Los Angeles on Monday, January 29. Stars walked the purple carpet wearing ensembles fit for royalty, in keeping with the evening’s theme.
Lupita Nyong’o, who plays warrior character Nakia, wore a plum purple Atelier Versace chiffon gown with bejeweled gold hardware covering the bodice and shoulders, resembling a harness or corset.
The color of the gown looked stunning against the actress’ skin tone. She let the gown do the talking by styling her hair in a slicked back, high bun.
Janelle Monáe wore a black strapless gown with ruffled sleeves- one in royal blue and the other in a stark white. Monáe chose a very unique hair accessory, topping her short, sleek hair with a gold crown fit for a queen.
Angela Bassett stuck to the African theme of the night, wearing a bright yellow fringe jumpsuit with matching satin heels. Her arms were covered in stacked gold bangle bracelets.
Donald Glover, better known as Childish Gambino, wore a show stopping look. His bright orange suit was paired with a printed shirt, buttoned to the top, and black velvet loafers.
Chadwick Boseman, who plays King T’Challa, opted for a jacquard printed black and gold blazer. He let the blazer remain the focal point of his look, with plain black pants and dress shoes.
Each actor or actress showed up to the premiere dressed to impress, truly honoring the film which takes place in the fictional African nation of Wakanda.
