In a three team trade involving the New York Yankees, Arizona Diamondbacks, and Tampa Bay Rays, Brandon Drury was sent from Arizona to New York, and Arizona added outfielder Steven Souza Jr. Drury is a solid addition to a young infield that has been questionable since the Giancarlo Stanton trade. He was a favorite pickup amongst fantasy owners, as he played most infield positions and in the outfield, and enjoyed solid production with a .267 average, 13 homers and 63 RBI.
Souza enjoyed significant production in 2017, hitting 30 long balls with 78 RBI in Tampa Bay. Arizona will likely use him to replace the production they lost with J.D. Martinez‘s departure in a lineup featuring Jake Lamb and Paul Goldschmidt. Souza leaves Tampa in the midst of what appears to be a complete rebuild, as the Rays look to move Corey Dickerson and sent franchise player Evan Longoria to San Francisco this offseason.
Tampa ended up with four total prospects as a result of the deal to build up their farm system as they look to build a contender down the road. Both Souza and Drury join contenders in arguably the strongest divisions heading into the 2018 season in the NL West and the AL East.
