The NBA is back in Seattle. Well, kind of. Sources are reporting that the Golden State Warriors are planning to play a preseason game in 2018 against the Sacramento Kings in Seattle, the first NBA game to be played in the city since the Supersonics broke Seattle’s heart and moved to Oklahoma City.
The Kings were reportedly on the move to Seattle in 2013 until the move was denied by the NBA Board of Governors. Now, the Kings have a brand new stadium while Seattle has no team and essentially a bowling alley of a stadium in Key Arena. As part of a plan to bring an NHL and NBA team to Seattle in the future, the Key Arena will be undergoing a massive renovation beginning in October, which means the game will likely be played elsewhere.
If the game is played in the Tacoma Dome, people will likely chuckle as they walk in the door.
Seattle is an excellent choice for a potential expansion team for any sport as a solid sports market with an immediate fanbase that spreads across the state of Washington over into Montana. Moves like this will bring attention to the city and encourage more moves to bring more professional sports to the Pacific Northwest.
