On Thursday, February 22 designers Virgil Abloh and Heron Preston revealed “COLLABORATION,” their new handbag which they created together.
The purse is a carry-all that incorporates both designers’ exploration of industrial elements. It features a dual-colored strap which is bright orange on one side and yellow on the other. The strap is derived from Off-White’s yellow Weight Securing System strap that he fashioned into belts and shoe straps, as well as Preston’s classic orange band with the word “style” printed in Russian.
Abloh x Preston also included one of this season’s hottest trends: PVC. “Collaboration” presents an orange insert inside of a plastic, transparent material. The transparent body is printed with Off-White’s classic bold, diagonal white lines and the words “COLLABORATION” printed across.
To promote Off-White’s famed industrial look, the strap is fastened to the purse by two black carabiner clips. Abloh has become well known for creating items that look as if they are still under development, such as sneakers with zip ties secured to them. That perfectly undone look is present with the “Collaboration” handbag.
Abloh and Preston did an excellent job at representing both of their individual brands while simultaneously offering us something new and exciting with the creation of “Collaboration.”
