The wait is over

The wait is over. Burberry has named Riccardo Tisci as their new chief creative officer.  Tisci’s responsibilities will include the oversight of menswear and womenswear collections and accessories.

The 43-year-old designer previously served a 12 year reign as Givenchy’s creative director from 2005 to 2017. He did wonders for the fashion house, making them a favorite of many celebrities such as the Kardashian family.

Tisci will replace Christopher Bailey, who stepped down from Burberry after 17 years at the company. During London Fashion Month in February, Bailey debuted his final runway collection which was an emotional yet prideful occasion.

Marco Gobbetti, Burberry’s chief executive, shared his excitement over Tisci joining the Burberry team saying,

“I am delighted that Riccardo is joining Burberry. He is one of the most talented designers of our time. His designs have an elegance that is contemporary and his skill in blending streetwear with high fashion is highly relevant to today’s luxury consumer. Riccardo’s creative vision will reinforce the ambitions we have for Burberry and position the brand firmly in luxury.”

Gobbetti and Tisci’s relationship goes back to over a decade. They both worked together at Givenchy, as Mr. Gobbetti, Givenchy’s chief executive, hired Tisci in 2005. The duo will get to collaborate once again, as they unite their talents to make Burberry an even more powerful fashion house.

Those in the fashion industry are showing support for Burberry’s decision, praising Tisci for his skills and top-tier training. Glenda Bailey, editor in chief of Harper’s Bazaar said, “You have to remember that Riccardo trained at Central St. Martins and has always had something of a British love affair. He really relishes that eclectic spirit.”

Mr. Gobbetti, with the help of Tisci, intends to make Burberry even more upscale with higher prices and profit margins. Tisci released a statement saying,

“I am honored and delighted to be joining Burberry and reuniting with Marco Gobbetti. I have an enormous respect for Burberry’s British heritage and global appeal and I am excited about the potential of this exceptional brand.”

As the whole world watches, Tisci is entering the next chapter of his career which he is sure to handle with as much talent and creative vision as all of his previous endeavors.
