Harlem rapper A$AP Ferg links up with Denzel Curry and IDK on their new track “Kristi YamaGucci,” featuring a special guest appearance by social media star Nick Joseph, better known as NickNPattiWhack.
The 29-year-old A$AP Mob family member combines his deep appreciation for the handcrafted Italian luxury brand, “Gucci,” with the name of 1992 U.S. Olympic Gold Medalist, and former two-time World Champion figure skater, Kristi Yamaguchi, for his latest single from producer Frankie-P.
Considering that Yamaguchi was born in 1971, it is plausible to think that she might not be a fan of the newer “mumble rap” sound. Perhaps, the prolific 46-year-old female athlete is more of a classic hip-hop kind of girl?
Ferg went from designing and distributing his own fashion lines to eventually becoming an image of mainstream hip-hop culture, which might explain why he felt like making some “fashionable” references to high-end brands of cars, cognac, clothes, and sneakers. He also shamelessly promotes his own single, “Plain Jane,” which he then refers to as “the song of the year” before continuing to inflate his own ego with bars about A$AP Mob’s Calvin Klein campaign.
The song also makes several mentions of the late-A$AP Yams, who tragically died in 2015, from an accidental overdose. He also asks the departed 26-year-old rapper to watch over his father and Jam Master Jay, the former Run-DMC DJ and father of Ferg’s longtime collaborator TJ Mizell.
Ferg released the single on Feb. 28th, in advance of his 31-city “Mad Man” North American tour, which he first announced late last year, also featuring Denzel Curry and IDK.
