Black Mirror Gets Renewed By Netflix

The creepiest show on Netflix is back

Black Mirror Is Coming Back For A 5th Season.

Netflix has renewed Charlie Booker‘s Black Mirror series for a 5th season. Its 4th season premiered on the streaming service at the end of 2017. Its 4th season consisted of six total episodes that featured stories about dating apps, virtual reality, surveillance, and more through the broken prism of Black Mirror.

The series has an odd and unique way of exploring morality. Often the shows central protagonist ends up being the real villain of the story. The show premiered for two series on the British television channel Channel 4 on December 2011 and February 2013, respectively.

Netflix later purchased the program in September 2015. It commissioned a series of 12 episodes later divided into the third and fourth seasons. Each was six hour-long episodes. The former was released on 21 October 2016 and the latter on 29 December 2017.

Taking its cue from older anthology series such as The Twilight Zone and The Outer Limits, Booker’s Black Mirror is stories about humankind’s dependency on technology and the follies that come with such. Often the stories take place in a possible future not too much ahead of the present. Each tale in Black Mirror depicts how our society will end up if we do eventually become subconscious slaves to the machines we make.

Booker came up with the series while working on a different show titled “How TV Ruined My Life.” Booker pulled the series ominous title, Black Mirror, from this approach:

“If technology is a drug – and it does feel like a drug – then what, precisely, are the side effects? This area – between delight and discomfort – is where Black Mirror, my new drama series, is set. The ‘black mirror’ of the title is the one you’ll find on every wall, on every desk, in the palm of every hand: the cold, shiny screen of a TV, a monitor, a smartphone.”

The teaser trailer is simple and to the point. The teaser features several monitors playing episodes from previous seasons when it pans out to a black screen with the Netflix logo and a messages reading “Be Right Back.”
