It was announced this morning that girl group Fifth Harmony would be taking a hiatus to pursue solo endeavors.
The post was shared on the group’s social media outlets as well as each member’s. After thanking the fans for helping the group grow over the last six years, the girls announced their hiatus.
“After six years of going hard, nonstop, we also realized that in order to stay authentic to ourselves and to you, we do need to take some time for now to go on hiatus from Fifth Harmony in order to pursue solo endeavors.”
They close the post by saying that the shows the group’s shows for the rest of the year will go on as planned, so fans with tickets to those performances need not worry.
The hiatus should come as no surprise. Last year, Camila Cabello left to pursue her own career and is now topping the charts.
Last fall, Dinah Jane Hansen guested on “Boom Boom” with Daddy Yankee, French Montana and RedOne.
Also last year, Lauren Jauregui was featured on songs with Halsey and Steve Aoki before signing a solo deal in late January.
Member Ally Brooke signed a solo deal with Columbia only last week after featuring on Topic’s “Perfect” in January.
Fifth Harmony was thrown together during the auditions for the 2012 season of American X-Factor.
The girls finished third in the competition, but went on to find immediate success afterward. They released three albums together including the 2017 self-titled release. Each record charted in the top 10 on the Billboard Top 200.
Unfortunately for fans, Fifth Harmony did not give a timeframe for their hiatus.
The announcement is reminiscent of the One Direction announcement in 2015 where the former X-Factor UK group took a break to pursue solo careers after a member had previously departed.
Only time will tell if the members of Fifth Harmony will fare as well as those of One Direction.
Keep up with music at Salute.
