Chris Cornell has received yet another touching tribute from Serj Tankian and former Audioslave band mates.
On May 18, 2017 the world in a tragic turn of events lost Soundgarden and Audioslave front man Chris Cornell due to accidental overdose.
Even 10 months later however, the loving and touching tributes have not stopped rolling in. This time, Cornell’s former Audioslave band mates who now make up Prophets of Rage have decided to call on their friend System of a Down front man Serj Tankian to perform the beloved Audioslave classic “Like a Stone”.
The performance happened earlier today (March 20) in Auckland, New Zealand.
In the video below, guitarist Tom Morello introduces Tankian by giving a short, yet touching speech about Cornell and an introduction into what they were about to play, saying:
“Not too long ago we lost a very good friend of ours, Chris Cornell. Please show him some appreciation. We miss him very much too and we’d like to do this song in his loving memory and we’d like to bring up one of our favorite kiwis, Serj Tankian.”
Tankian delivered a very unique vocal take on the song, though considering how oddly different his voice is that is to be expected.
Regardless, there was passion and heart felt behind every last lyric and note the entire ensemble performed. It oozed sadness and breathed sincere love for their fallen friend and brother. It turned out to be a hauntingly powerful performance of a song that was already those things to begin with.
Cornell had actually reunited onstage with Prophets of Rage last spring and was interested in the idea of writing and recording some new music as Audioslave prior to his passing this past spring.
Keep up with music at Salute.
