First Look: Youtube Red’s Cobra Kai Gets A Full Trailer

Re-Awakening an 80’s Classic

Youtube Red‘s Cobra Kai continues the story of the Karate Kid.

A few weeks ago, Youtube started to reveal teasers for their Karate Kid legacy series, Cobra Kai. Now, Youtube Red has released the full first trailer for the upcoming series. Created by Robert Mark Kamen, the television series takes place thirty-four years after the original film and follows the reopening of the Cobra Kai karate dojo by old rivals Johnny Lawrence and Daniel LaRusso. Cobra Kai was created by Jon Hurwitz, Hayden Schlossberg, and Josh Heald and stars William Zabka and Ralph Macchio will be reprising their roles from the films.

The new full-length trailer details more of the story that features Johnny Lawrence. Lawrence is training a new class of students that look to have their own subplots within the series. Here is the synopsis of Youtube Red’s Cobra Kai:

Johnny Lawrence and Daniel LaRusso aren’t the same people they were in high school— but their rivalry hasn’t changed one bit.

The trailer begins with the fated 1984 All Valley Karate Championship. A gruff and experienced Johnny Lawrence against the novice but determined Daniel LaRusso.  A crane kick later, history changed for both men that day. One went on to become a hero; the other fell into obscurity.

Thirty-four years later, Johnny is still trying to pick his life up off the ground. LaRusso has gone on to become a car lot owner using his Karate Kid fame to sell cars. When Johnny goes to have a reunion with Daniel, he’s only seen as the loser Daniel beat all those years ago.

However, destiny has a funny way of bringing people back. As Johnny watches a Daniel-esque teen get harassed by a group of bullies he intervenes and beats the bullies senseless despite his old age showing. He can’t exactly pull off the same karate kicks he could easily perform as a young man. When the bullied teen asks Johnny if he can train him, it reignites a fire in Johhny for Karate.

The reemergence of Cobra Kai Karate catches the eye of LaRusso. LaRusso thinks Johnny teaching a bunch of kids brutality isn’t the way to teach karate and vows to shut it down. Meanwhile, Johnny agrees to be the bullied teen’s Sensei. Johnny promises to teach the brand of karate that was taught to him for a whole new generation.

Youtube Red’s Cobra Kai arrives on the streaming service May 2nd, 2018.
