Marcus J. Moore set to release Kendrick Lamar biography

How to pimp a biography

Kendrick Lamar is getting the biography treatment.

Rap/Hip-hop superstar Kendrick Lamar is having one hell of a 2018. First, he opened the Grammy Awards with a rousing performance before completely sweeping his categories.

Then it was revealed that he was not only creating new music for Marvel’s Black Panther, but that he was curating an entire album; an album which has been destroying the charts.

He has a global tour ahead of him, is dipping into the pop-up merch phenomenon and now he can find himself in another unexpected place: the bookstore.

Marcus J. Moore, senior editor at Bandcamp, has just revealed via Twitter that he will be releasing a Kendrick Lamar biography.

Moore has signed a deal with Touchstone Books, an imprint of powerhouse Simon & Schuster, for a biography on the prolific performer and his rise to superstardom.

While Kendrick Lamar is still a relatively new artist in the grand scheme of things with only four albums to his name since first appearing in 2011, he has created a shift in the black culture paradigm.

He took himself from the streets of Compton to the top tier of the music industry in what seems like no time at all.

More told that the book will focus on “the artist’s coming of age as an MC, how he helped resurrect two languishing genres (bebop and jazz), his profound impact on a racially fraught America, and his emergence as the bonafide King of Rap.”

It will also focus on the “broad, global impact of his work” and how “his story directly connects to the charged spirits of art and revolution.”

In these short seven years, Kendrick Lamar has inspired generations. For someone who has barely scratched the surface of his career, his impact has already cemented him as one of the greatest of all time in the rap game.

The Butterfly Effect: How Kendrick Lamar Ignited the Soul of Black America does not have a release date at this time, but stay tuned to Salute for more updates.

Keep up with music at Salute.
