From September 2017 until now, “Scooby Doo Pa Pa” continues to not only top the charts, but the catchy tune has become a worldwide phenomenon that shows no sign of stopping anytime soon.
Created by DJ Kass as a dembow remix to comedian Big Shaq’s “Man’s Not Hot,” the song quickly became a sensation, but it reached new heights when Venezuelan Internet star Lele Pons’ used the tune as a backtrack and inspiration for a dance parody video that was based on the lyrics of the record. Additionally, the song has been featured in multiple different television platforms and celebrity Instagram videos. It is safe to say the memorable tune has created a loyal following of its very own kind.
The track has become a pivotal moment for dembow as it took the genre from the robust streets of the Dominican Republic and New York City to an international level where everyone is intrigued by the catching tunes and the slick words the genre has to offer.
According to Nielsen Music, the song has accumulated over 6 million streams, took a Top 10 spot on Billboard’s Hot Latin Songs chart, and continues to be a top contender on Spotify’s Viral 50 chart in multiple different markets.
After having so much online success, it only made sense for DJ Kass to give his cult following of over 180,000 Instagram followers exactly what they have been asking from him- an official music video for the dope track.
Directed by Rock Davis the video takes us on a comedic ride into a school filled with Instagram sensations, including Kenstarz, Chrissy, and Kid the Wiz, before transitioning into a club scene shot in the infamous Uptown establishment, Opus Lounge. Additionally, the video presents the official “Scooby Doo Pa Pa” dance called “hit the Kass,” a mixture of movements that somehow felt nostalgic yet trendy all at the same time.
With numerous years under his belt as a DJ, Kass had the ability to spot a hit when he heard one and that is just what happened when he heard the catchy beat we now recognize as “Scooby Doo Pa Pa.” What once started as an “internet experimental craze” has now become a huge hit that is heard internationally.
When asked about his new-found success the DJ said:
“I just want to be heard, appreciated, and known in this world for giving a great show and best of all, entertaining the crowd because I live through them,”
It has been stated that he was inspired by his father’s ability to use music to bring people together regardless of their background. His father was a well-known local DJ. Kass hopes to continue in his father’s footsteps and create music that brings everyone under one umbrella just like he did with “Scooby Doo Pa Pa.”
Update– It has just been announced via Instagram that DJ Kass has just signed a contract with the label Groundwerk/EntertainmentOne!, which has an impressive roster of musical talents, including DJ Khaled, Bryant Myers, The Game, DJ Drama, among many others who are currently making a buzz in the industry.
Congratulations to DJ Kass on breaking language barriers and putting dembow on a larger scale.
