Less Than Jake paves the way in the ska-punk scene

The key is staying real.

Setting records with little to no support from paparazzi attention…

The Gainesville five-some Less Than Jake has been around for decades and despite them showing ongoing support for highly popular artists such as Bon JoviLinkin ParkSnoop Dogg, just to name a few.

The key to their relevant stance today is a simple one: restlessly ‘functioning’ amidst crowds, despite having no help from local radio stations and television exposure.

Forming in 1992, the gang comprised of leading man Chris DeMakesbassist Roger Lima, trombonist Buddy Schaubsaxophonist Peter “JR” Wasilewskiand lyricist/drummer Vinnie Fiorell came to terms that the best way to make a name for themselves is by swaying away from the norm, and going with the flow of their career on their own time.

When asked about how they remain a success in a press statement, the band simple said:

“we never stopped touring or trying to be an active band.”

Whether a fan of punk rock or not, the name Less Than Jake is one that brings forth some familiarity, ringing a bell in one’s mind at some point or another.

It is common to have witnessed them live at Vans Warped Tour, seen their name on consistent festival lineups, or maybe have had one of their catchy tracks such as “All My Best Friends Are Metalheads,” booming in through the speakers for quite some time because it’s been played in popular video games and movies in the early 2000’s such as Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 4 and Digimon: The Movie.

The boys even gained the likes of fellow notorious pop-punk bands in the music industry which includes Fall Out Boy, Paramore, and Yellowcardwho are some of the few to express their continuous support for Less Than Jake.

Staying true to their original roots and never one to show off stepping into the big league, the crew managed to reach numerous musical trends by just remaining real with fans without fronting an act that comes along with the rise to fame and fortune.

Currently, the boys have released over ten albums, countless EP’s, dropped other popular tracks such as “The Science Of Selling Yourself Short,” and “History Of A Boring Town,” and created many other ska-punk compilations, surpassing two million records worldwide in sales.

Collectively, Less Than Jake has well over 300 releases of various labels under their wing, and for most that’s an accomplishment, but for these rock veterans it’s just one step closer to something new.

Less Than Jake are preparing to embark on a tour set to take off next month, as they continue their journey of delivering new music and keeping up their get-up-and-go motto.
