Cardi B gears up for album release with new single ‘Drip’

Drip, drip

Cardi B is keeping it in the family.

Ahead of the release of her debut album, rapper Cardi B dropped her latest single late Tuesday night with “Drip.”

The song, which is sure to be her next slam dunk as the beat is a bop and exudes confidence, details Cardi B’s come up from her past as a stripper to now dripping in diamonds at the top of the rap game.

I gotta stay outta Gucci
I’m finna run outta hangers
Is she a stripper, a rapper or a singer?
I’m busting racks in a Bentley Bentayga
Ride through your hood like “Bitch, I’m the mayor!”

“Drip” also features the members of Migos, which includes Cardi B’s fiance Offset. Their verses clap back just as hard at the haters as Cardi B does.

I’m the one dealin’, I could make a killin’
Bags, can you smell it when I Vac-seal it?
Flag, n—a, throw it up, don’t care about your feelings
Ooh, what is this? What you wearin’? I be drippin

The track follows her recent video drop for her track “Bartier Cardi,” the second single off of Invasion of Privacy. It was also dropped at roughly the same time as her “Be Careful” track.

The two songs could not be more different and show the range that Cardi B is looking to show on her debut album.

While “Drip” is a banger that is full of fire, “Be Careful” is softer in its delivery and beat, but doesn’t lose any of the intensity of its lyrics. It’s also loaded with pop culture references.

Not only does the song, as Billboard points out, borrow from Lauryn Hill’s “Ex-Factor,” but it also right out the gate references Golden State Warriors player Steph Curry and his wife Ayesha Curry and TLC’s “Creep.”

“Be Careful” is rumored to be about fiance Offset, but until either artist confirms, the partner who did Cardi B wrong will remain an identity shrouded in speculation.

The difference in the two songs proves that Cardi B is a force to be reckoned with in the rap game.

Invasion of Privacy will be released on Friday, April 6th and the rapper will make her Saturday Night Live debut the following day with host Chadwick Boseman.

Cardi B will also be the first ever Tonight Show co-host with Jimmy Fallon on Monday April 9th.

Keep up with music at Salute.
