UK Drum and Bass DJ/Producer Danny Byrd has returned with a dynamite new single “Salute” featuring the legendary MC GQ, who steps microphone on this brand new dance track that channels a type of early ’90s jungle rhythm. Between the heavy rumbling of the sub-bass, live recorded horns, and drum work shows why he has continued to be one of the most celebrated artists on the Hospital Records label.
Byrd was one of the very first artists to sign with the independent dance label, which was co-founded by Tony Colman better known by the stage-name, London Elektricity, and Chris Goss. By the turn of the new millennium, he had already become a staple in the DnB community with a number of dance singles, including “Do It Again” (2000), “Changes” (2001) and “Dog Hill” (2006). In 2008, he delivered his debut album, Supersized, after years spent performing and working on his craft.
His latest single, “Salute,” is the second which he has released in 2018, following “Devil’s Drop,” which premiered back in January on the label’s Sick Music 2018 compilation album—their first in six years. The track is undoubtedly the result of a master at work, who taps into everything there is to love about the technological dance genre.
It also sets the tone of what looks to be an exciting year for the mighty Danny Byrd, who has yet to release a mixtape or an LP in almost five years. His last full-length studio album, Golden Ticket, was released during summer of 2013, which he immediately followed with the mixtape, Byrd is the Word.
It isn’t clear what Byrd has in the works, but if this new single is any indication, hopefully, we can expect more incredible tracks like “Salute” in the near future.
