Drake almost breaks the Internet with album announcement

Following God’s Plan

Drake only loves his bed, his mom, and keeping secrets.

After releasing a handful of singles, fans were wondering if Drake would be announcing a new album to house them or if they were one offs.

Earlier this week, fans were surprised when the “God’s Plan” rapper posted a photo to Instagram with his back to the camera and a jacket emblazoned with the word “SCORPION” across his shoulders. It was followed by “June Twenty-Eighteen” and his name along the bottom.

The post was quickly followed by another post of Drake wearing scorpion themed jewelry nearly solidifying that that would be the name of his followup to his 2016 album Views and his 2017 mixtape More Life.

Thus far, the tracks from Scorpion have been nothing but successful. When the Canadian native released “God’s Plan” back in January, it shattered streaming records. It shot to no. 1 immediately and broke the record for both single day streams and first week streams. The song had remained at no. 1 until it was dethroned…by another Drake single.

With the release of “Nice for What,” Drake has become only the 13th artist to lose the no. 1 spot on the charts to his next single. However, he’s the first artist to ever have two consecutive singles debut at no. 1, according to Complex.

But the success isn’t only due to the fact that Drake seems to have universal appeal. The strategy he’s employed for this album is also a contributing factor.

Each of the three singles have been released two months apart with gives each single the chance the succeed before he drops another one. Instead of dropping a handful at once or an entire surprise album, he’s pacing himself and allowing fans to really soak in the eclectic tracks he’s released thus far for Scorpion.

His strategy for avoiding over-saturating the charts is smart and will inevitably ensure Scorpion‘s success.

Though he said June 2018, there has yet to be a specific release date announced. Fans will need to stick by Salute for further updates.
