Ariana Grande proved she can own any Tonight Show challenge.
Singer Ariana Grande and Jimmy Fallon. Together, the two created, according to E! Online, the most social episode the show has ever seen. Over 3 million total interactions and had the audience and th internet roaring with laughter.
In the first segment, the duo set up a mock recording studio and let audience members sing their variation of Grande’s “One Last Time” before Grande and Jimmy Fallon strolled in to surprise them. Another sketch included a talk show called “NBD” where the two were trying to constantly one up each other, but also not care at the same time.
However, the standout segment was a game called “Musical Genre Challenge.” In the game, Grande or Fallon would “spin” the wheel and would be given a song and then a style in which to sing it. Jimmy Fallon sang “Shape of You” by Ed Sheeran in Ska style and another round was Usher’s “Yeah!” country style.
But the most entertaining was Ariana Grande’s “goth-rock” rendition of Kendrick Lamar’s “Humble.” Choosing to go the “Hot Topic” route, Grande made the smash hit sound like an Evanescence from the early 2000s version. Backed by The Roots, Grande drew the verse out and showed her vocal capabilities over the chorus.
Grande closed the show with the debut performance of her new single “No Tears Left to Cry.” The singer continued the prismatic theme of her single’s artwork with a rainbow shining over the set of geometric staircases.
During the show, she announced that her next album Sweetener will be released on July 20th.
Keep up with music at Salute.
