The legendary mastermind Karl Lagerfeld took his creativity to the next level, creating a 330-foot-long cruise ship named La Pausa as the backdrop of the new Chanel Cruise 2019 collection. The extravagant ship is a replica of a villa in the South of France built by the founder of Chanel, in the 1930s.
As expected the audience was filled with eager celebrities including Lily-Rose Depp, Margot Robbie, and Kristen Stewart, who were elated to see what the iconic brand had come up with this time.
The collection offered relax nautical pieces with a twist of sportswear that was perfectly displayed on sixties inspired silhouettes. Featuring an abundance of checkered and striped patterns showcased on miniskirts, pantsuits, shorts, and blazers. Likewise, simple outlines were also seen on cotton shirts, knee-length pleated skirts, and an abundance of white sailor plants with classic nautical vertical line patterns matched up with white sweaters.
An element of confetti sequin and embroidery was seen throughout the range on items Lagerfeld called “flexible dress”- two-piece separates that offered the smallest bit of midriff when worn together. In addition, there were standout pieces, including a red leather jacket and pant set, and a pair of black sheer rhinestone-dotted harem pants.
In true Chanel fashion, suits were a highlight of the night offering classic structures in a multitude of fabrics and colors that could only be described as a luxurious high fashion nautical rainbow. Additionally, streetwear was seen in shredded jeans, leather shorts with denim hemlines and tracksuits in upscale fabrics including a tweed navy blue suit presented by Bella Hadid.
Accessories were a big staple of the show, featuring high-sea and floatation devices inspired handbags that stole the show, chic beret in multiple different pastel hues, gold cuffs with classic Chanel logo, and crisp white stockings that brought a vintage feminine touch.
The assortment was nothing less than impressive as expected. This is another example of Lagerfeld’s meticulous way of envisioning something completely out of this world and somehow making it look and feel high fashion. Another collection that will be talked about for many more years to come.
