Donald Glover proves that even in a galaxy far, far away he’s a superstar.
There’s nothing that Donald Glover isn’t capable of right now. Just days before the finale was about to air on the second season of his hit FX show Atlanta, Glover appeared on Saturday Night Live in a dual role as both host and musical guest.
After proving his comedic worth, Glover debuted not one, but two new songs off of his third and final album under the moniker Childish Gambino.
The second song, “This is America,” has catapulted Gambino to chart topper with the views of its video climbing towards 80 million since its release on May 6.
But it’s what Glover was on Saturday Night Live to promote that has him flying at warp speed towards superstardom.
As host, he was there to promote his role as young Lando Calrissian in Solo: A Star Wars Story.
Glover has been vocal about his desire to play the character since it was announced that Disney was looking to expand the universe beyond the episodes.
And thankfully, he’s gotten so much more than just a part in someone else’s story.
Solo hasn’t even been released yet and already LucasFilm is putting their faith in Donald Glover as they announced earlier today that they will be giving Lando Calrissian his own origin story film.
XXL Mag reports LucasFilm studio chief Kathleen Kennedy stating,
“We think that the next spin-off will be dedicated to Lando Calrissian. Of course, there are still many stories to tell about Han and Chewbacca, but Lando will be next.”
The publication also goes on to state that while the film is not receiving the best reviews from critics, Glover’s performance has stood out and been one of the finer points of the film.
Donald Glover’s career trajectory is going to a galaxy far, far away and his star is only getting brighter.
Solo: A Star Wars Story hits theaters on May 25.
