The Trickle Down is Salute Magazine‘s weekly column by Political Writer Amanda Godula. The Trickle Down is a weekly look into what’s need-to-know, fresh takes on trends, and the inevitable controversies from the political arena. Let’s dig in and see what’s happening this week.
President Donald Trump has not been known to hold his tongue, especially on Twitter. According to Trump, Barack Obama is the worst president, climate change is a Chinese hoax, and that Robert Pattinson can do better than Kristen Stewart. He’s even gone after Republicans; ask Rand Paul, Lindsey Graham, and Jeff Flake. But, it’s Trump’s latest target, who is hitting back – Sen. Bob Corker (R-TN).
It's a shame the White House has become an adult day care center. Someone obviously missed their shift this morning.

Trump’s antics have begun splintering the majority party’s slam dunk policies. Starting with repealing Obamacare.
Trump promised to repeal Obamacare on day one of his presidency, if not immediately. Republicans have tried to repeal Obamacare during Obama’s term and began laying the groundwork to repeal the health care act. But, then a GOP wrench was thrown into the vote.
John McCain sided with Democrats and two other GOP senators to vote down the repeal. (Those other two senators? Lisa Murkoswski (R-AK) and Susan Collin (R-ME), who voted against Trump’s pick for Secy. of Education, Betsy DeVos.)
Unsurprisingly, Trump has attacked McCain previously. Trump’s most notable was his questioning of McCain’s war hero status.
Now, Corker may be putting the kibosh to any GOP tax plans. After announcing he won’t seek re-election, Corker said he wouldn’t vote for tax plans which increase the debt.
“With realistic growth projections, it cannot produce a deficit,” Corker said. “There is no way in hell I’m voting for it.”
Any major legislation has been derailed, like health care and likely tax plans; two major platforms for the Republican party. A party that has a majority in the House and Senate. (Ironically, when Obama was in office, he had both the House and Senate and passed the Affordable Care Act – or Obamacare. Just saying…)
Our GOP leader made enemies with Democrats, which got him elected. But, his petty tendencies have carried over to the GOP side and is making enemies within his base, which could lead to a one-term presidency or impeachment.
Bob Corker is another notch closer to destabilizing the GOP and its efforts for conservative rule. Trump has been able to accomplish in a few months what no Democrat could do previously- de-unifying the Republican party.
