Franz Ferdinand Recapture The Groove

The past seven days have seen a lot of bands mend fences to return to the stage. Proto-power rockers At The Drive In are back with new music and shows.

Rock legends Soundgarden are also banging the big drum again.

Alternative-couture rock’s Fran Ferdinand may not have the aggression of the before mentioned acts but they possess a certain style that has cemented their legacy.

The center of their current action is New York’s Governor’s Ball. Apparently, additional dates were put together to make that outing worthwhile.

Since the departure of guitarist/keyboardist Nick McCarthy, FF has only dropped one new song in  “Demagogue.”

When losing a founding member such as McCarthy, things tend to get ugly. FF handled it with grace according to their press statement.

“We’d love to be able to say this is a result of personal or musical differences, but it’s not. Those differences are what we formed the band around in the first place.”

McCarthy has family commitments and may rejoin the fold but in the meantime there was music to make and “Demagogue” sent he right message at the right time.

The funky new-wave inspired number is far from a departure but none the less, it feels as inspired as ever.

As it stands, the band will busy until the fall.
