It has been five long years, but pop singer-songwriter P!nk has finally returned with her seventh studio album, Beautiful Tragedy, available now from RCA Records.
Following her collaboration “Waterfalls,” featuring Australian singer-songwriter, Sia, and Norwegian dance-pop producers, Stargate, P!nk announced that she was finally returning to the studio to begin work on her first album since 2012’s The Truth About Love. And, naturally, she decided to bring back some rather familiar faces including Jack Antonoff [aka Bleachers], Julia Michaels, Greg Kurstin, Michael Busbee, Steve McCutcheon and Eminem.
The lead single, “What About Us” was released back in August—just a few short weeks before she was presented with the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award at the 2017 MTV Video Music Awards—and went on to climb to the No. 25 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 charts. It also went on to claim the no. 1 spot in Australia.
The album opens with the title track, “Beautiful Trauma” an electronic dance-tinged pop ballad about chasing down her aspirations and the high she gets from performing in front of large crowds. P!nk also shows off some of her lyrical abilities on the old school “boom-bap” style rap, “Revenge,” featuring none other than Marshall Mathers, himself. The uptempo collaboration, produced by Swedish duo Max Martin and Shellback, is vaguely reminiscent of the type of mellowed out California beats one might expect to hear from more underground hip-hop acts, like Living Legends or Abstract Rude.
“Barbies,” is perhaps one of the most interesting tracks on the album. Produced by English glam rockers, The Struts, on this pop-rock song about growing up and longing for those simpler times from the past.
Another noteworthy track, “Better Days,” is an uplifting and inspirational gospel-like tune co-written by Antonoff and Roc Nation singer-songwriter, Sam Dew, who previously co-produced Wale’s chart-topping single, “LoveHate Thing.”
P!nk provides a new gem for her adoring fans all over the world with Beautiful Trauma, another instantaneous pop masterpiece that is bound for chart-topping success.
